Work Experience

2023 - Present

Instructor

Minneapolis, Minnesota

As part of my duties within the PhD program at the U, I teach First Year Writing. This course is a universally required course at the U and I have taught it since 2023. See my WRIT 1301 page for more info on my teaching values!

2022 - 2023

Community Organizer

Clean Water Action &

Food and Water Watch

Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania

Clean Water Action is an environmental advocacy group primarily concerned with protecting our waters, campaigning to elect environmental candidates, and to solve environmental and community problems., I contacted existing members and develop long-term sustaining donors for Clean Water Action's environmental work.

In addition to community organization, I also provided my editing and writing skills to create scripts of information and talking points for phone canvassing.

My canvassing efforts for Food and Water Watch focused on accountability relating to food, water, and corporate overreach. I also did door knocking and community halls in support of a candidate for county executive, encouraging people to not only vote, but support a candidate the FWW feels will pursue strong environmental policy change to benefit Allegheny County at large.

2022

Teaching Assistant

Carnegie Mellon University

Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania

During the Spring Mini-semester I was a TA for an Oral Communications class. I managed classroom presentations, grading, student feedback on projects, responding to student needs, and assisting with lectures.

This position was incredibly fulfilling; I enjoy being in the classroom and helping students who have a fear of public speaking realize that they can utilize communication skills to use in their future professional lives.

2017 - 2021

Freelance Writer and Editor

As a freelance writer and editor, I was hired by several organizations such as Hilton CS Conference Center, Clean Water Action, individuals seeking academic editing, magazines, and businesses.

I created content based on client needs, format expectations, and edited both technical, professional, and academic forms of writing.

2017 - 2021

Front Office Supervisor

Hilton College Station Conference Center

College Station, TX

At the front desk, I am responsible for not only checking in guests, but paying attention to details important for a successful stay: contact and payment information, events being hosted in our conference center, and connecting with guests to make sure everything goes smoothly.

At Carnegie Mellon University, I met with many professors, members of my cohort, and other academics who share my love for positively impacting and empowering communities. I learned so much about the field of Rhetoric and communication. The faculty at CMU provided a host of experiences where I learned various methodologies, theories, and an incredible amount of literature to strengthen my skills as a writer and researcher.

This Master's program solidified my decision to pursue a doctoral degree.

2017- 2020

Texas A&M University

College Station, Texas

Texas A&M instilled in me its core values: excellence, leadership, loyalty, respect, and selfless service. I gained so much more than my Bachelor's degree here. I became president of the German club, studied abroad in Bonn, Germany, received a certificate of professional writing, and found my calling into the field of rhetorical analysis. I want to continue studying rhetoric in order to share it with others and facilitate an environment where we seek differences, appreciate each other, and learn to use rhetoric as a form of understanding and practicing empathy.

2016 - 2017

Blinn College

Bryan, Texas

Blinn college provided me with the skills of true college preparedness. I formed relationships with professors that have supported me throughout my college career and taught me invaluable lessons about life both in and out of the academic sphere.

During my time at NYU I advanced my proficiency in Spanish and was introduced to various pedagogical practices with a teaching apprenticeship course. For a semester, I observed multiple classes, grades, and schools in various parts of the city. From this, I was able to carry with me knowledge of engagement and pedagogy for K-12 learning and begin to explore how to apply those experiences to andragogy.
